About Us

Welcome!  Thank you for coming to the website of Team Learning 4 Life.  We are a group of eight cyclists who will participate in the 2008 Race Across America.  On June 11, we will start peddling in Oceanside, California and ride 24 hours a day for 8 days toward our destination of Annapolis, Maryland. During our 3,000 mile adventure, we will ride through California deserts, Colorado Rockies, the great plains and the Appalachian mountains; overall we will ride through 14 states and climb a net 100,000 feet.

Whatever for you ask?

Because of children like Dylan, Angel, Savannah, and Brenna; children who were born with different disabilities.

Having a disability is a difficult challenge.  It is also challenging to provide educational opportunities for children with special needs.  Though many programs exist for students to be educated in the public system, very few special education programs exist in private schools, let alone Christian schools.  As a matter of fact, less than 5% of Christian schools provide special education programs.

This needs to change.  Change is happening.

Beginning five years ago, the trustees of Redlands Christian School researched, discussed and eventually decided that RCS would offer a program to children who have mild to moderate cognitive disabilities.  In the fall of 2006, four students started in this excellent and unique program.  It is excellent in its focus on individualized learning plans, inclusion in typical classrooms, social skill development and service opportunities.  It’s uniqueness lies it its provision of encouragement and growth in the Christian faith.  Today the program assists 11 students.  There is nothing more satisfying to a parent of a disabled child than to have others say, “We will partner with you.”  It is even more encouraging when those people are your brothers and sisters in your faith.  The special education program at RCS does this and more.

It is our intent to both grow this program at the RCS campus of pre-k through 8th grade and also to extend this program at our companion high school, Arrowhead Christian Academy.

As much as our efforts are focused on our local schools, our ambitions are much higher.  It is also our intent to assist other Christian schools to also develop excellent special education programs.  5% needs to grow to 100%.  We would like to be a part of that growth.

Programs and efforts like this do not come without hard work and financial commitments.  To keep this program growing will require monies beyond what regular tuition will afford.  This is why Team Learning 4 Life will ride in the Race Across America.  We will do for those who cannot do for themselves.

Continue through our website.  Meet our riders. Meet some of the students. Then join us right here as we train, ponder and prepare for our 3,000 mile adventure.  Beginning June 11, stay with us every day as we post our progress while we ride to Maryland.  Be encouraged and inspired by our students and our riders as we take on challenges. We would love for you to partner with us in financial and prayer support.

Then, don’t be surprised if you find your self considering your own cause and deciding to do something about it.

Isn’t that what learning for life is all about?
